Define Question Mark

  • A punctuation mark represented by: ?
  • Used to indicate a question being asked
Rule 1
  • At the end of a question
    • example:  Does she like to read?
Rule 2
  • When a quote contains a question
  • Include the question mark in the parenthesis
    • example:  She asked him, "Do you know what time it is?"
Rule 3
  • When a question contains a quote, even if the quote is not a question
  • Place the question mark outside of the parenthesis
    • example:  What if I told you, "You're going to have a problem"?
Rule 4
  • Do not use question marks with an indirect question.
    • example:  She asked the teacher a question.
